Down the memory lane...Sep 2007
I love to be nostalgic almost everyday that I keep recollecting events that happened many years back. As I was browsing through my favourite site, cricinfo, I remembered about the emphatic triumph of India at the ICC T20 tournament on this very same day in the year 2007.

Let me get into the details straightaway.
It was
24-Sep-2007, a monday and start of a new week. But the day began with buzz about the grand finale of the first ICC T20 world cup between the traditional rivals India and Pakistan. As time was ticking away towards the match's starting time which was around 6 pm IST, people across the country were heading towards their homes to stay onto the TV sets. There were even special arrangements made at many office (including mine) to telecast the match onto a giant screen.

The match proved to a real cliffhanger with twists and turns till the very last over when India prevailed over Pakistan to lift the cup. There were instant celebrations across the country and in fact across the globe. It was like an "early diwali".

Of course when I think of this particular day, I should also recall 2 more unforgettable matches that happened some days before this one.

19-Sep-2007 :: India beat one of the pre-tournament favourites England by 18 runs. This was the match when the Indian T20 sensation, Yuvraj Singh blasted 6 SIXES in the 19th over of the match. He blasted ball after ball bowled by Stuart Broad to all corners of the park.

22-Sep-2007 :: The semifinal when the unheralded young Indian team trounced the all powerful Aussies by 15 runs to setup the final clash with Pak. Any Indian cricket fan would recall the sensational bowling display by Sreesanth to remove the aussie removers Gilchrist and Hayden.,

I will come back to my series of nostalgic writings with another interesting one very soon.........
